The Mozilla Foundation today announced the grand reopening of its online store, the Mozilla Store, which will sell Mozilla CDs, books and promotional merchandise. As a launch promotion, the Mozilla Store will be offering free standard shipping within the United States for the month of August. GatewayCDI will power the new Mozilla Store. Mozilla Foundation Reorganizes

Mozilla Foundation today announced it has formed a wholly owned subsidiary to be known as the Mozilla Corporation. The Mozilla Corporation is a taxable subsidiary that serves the non-profit, public benefit goals of its parent, the Mozilla Foundation, and the vast Mozilla community. It will continue to leverage resources from diverse sources to create and distribute great open and free-of-charge end-user products that promote choice and innovation on the Web.

Firefox on c|NET's Top 10 Download List

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, c|Net has ranked the Mozilla Firefox Web browser as the Number Four download on its list of all-time Top 10 downloads since c|Net's inception in 1995. Nearing 70 million downloads in only nine months, Firefox is cited as the first contender to pose a real threat to Microsoft Internet Explorer and is grouped with such popular and longstanding applications as Napster and ICQ. Major Web destinations and search engines are responding to this tremendous growth -- last week, Google officially released its own Firefox toolbar. Google's release is hot on the heels of similar customizations by Amazon.com, AOL, Ask Jeeves, Earthlink, and Yahoo!.

Mozilla 1.4 Alpha Released

Mozilla 1.4 Alpha is out. This release features dynamic image and table resizing in Composer, smooth scrolling (see release notes for enabling this feature,) and improvements to spam filtering. In addition to these feature improvements, 1.4a also contains fixes for perfomance, stability, standards support and website compatibility. This is an alpha release so expect bugs, and don't use it unless you are willing to live with the risks inherent in such a release (ie. crashes, data loss, etc.). Mozilla 0.9.7

The first Mozilla 0.9.7 builds are out. This milestone features basic S/MIME support, favicon support and the Document Inspector, a tool to inspect and edit the live DOM of any web document or XUL application. Read the Release Notes to find out what else is new.

MozStreamer

MozStreamer is a multimedia plug-in for Mozilla contributed originally by OEone Corporation and based on the GStreamer multimedia framework. The plug-in is capable of handling various formats of both audio and video files and is scriptable using XPCOM.

Using talkback builds gives us more crash data so common crash bugs can be quickly identified and fixed. Talkback data from the 0.9 release helped eliminate 34 of our most frequent crashes.

Komodo 1.0 Released

ActiveState has released Komodo 1.0, a cross-platform, multi-language Integrated Development Environment (IDE) featuring integrated online help, an interactive remote debugger and a regular expression toolkit. Komodo is a XUL application built upon the Mozilla application framework.

IBM Web Browser

IBM has released the IBM Web Browser, a port of Mozilla for OS/2 which includes a spell checker and flash plugin. While the browser is a fee based product, IBM has also released an open source version which is available at mozilla.org.

NSS 3.2 Released

Binary distributions for NSS 3.2 are now available on 10 platforms and have been tested and certified on 16 OS releases. Developers of products that incorporate NSS can now improve SSL performance and take advantage of the latest security improvements by downloading the NSS shared libraries. Binaries for the latest versions of the NSS Tools are also available.

Milestone Added To Schedule

In response to the large number of Mozilla 0.9 bugs and our desire to maintain 0.9 as a recommended beta branch point, we have added an additional milestone to the schedule. This new Mozilla 0.8.1 milestone replaces 0.9 in the calendar. Mozilla 0.9 and all subsequent Milestones have been shifted out one 5 week cycle.

The XBL 1.0 spec is now available as a W3C Note. This note was submitted to the World Wide Web Consortium with the intention that the W3C use it as a basis for furthering the work on BECSS.

To improve code quality, mozilla.org now requires all changes to be approved by a designated Mozilla code reviewer. This extra level of review applies to everyone, including Netscape engineers.

Open Source Crypto Library Released

NSS 3.1 Beta 1 has been released, including a new implementation of the RSA algorithm. This release provides, for the first time, a complete open-source implementation of the Netscape crypto libraries, and will be used in a future version of Personal Security Manager for Mozilla.
